Coin Collection
When the art cabinet was founded, the coin collection had already achieved an impressive reputation. Even 16 years before the first inventory of the art cabinet, the Weimar “Rat” Friedrich Hortleder compiled the first inventory of the coin collection under Duke Ernest the Pious (1640-1675). The inventory, containing 516 coins and medals, must have been compiled before 1640 and still exists in all its four volumes. more...
